In my op-ed published on July 12, 2023, in the “MétaMédia” trend analysis journal of France Télévisions, I examined the intricate relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and the evolving landscape of employment. The op-ed titled “Intelligence artificielle: une précarisation de l’emploi plus qu’une destruction” (Artificial Intelligence: Precarious Employment Rather Than Job Destruction) provides a deep dive into the consequences of AI’s impact on the workforce.
Systems like ChatGPT won’t entirely disrupt the traditional job landscape, but they will give rise to a new class of “click slaves,” individuals compensated poorly for training algorithms. This emerging reality presents a more tangible risk than the science-fiction scenarios where robots replace human labor. The op-ed underscores that OpenAI is already utilizing these micro-workers in their operations.
